Biochemist Michael Morbius tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but he inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism instead.

FUN FACT:  The name of the cargo ship in the beginning of the movie is Murnau (as in F.W. Murnau, the director of the classic vampire movie Nosferatu (1922)). Like the cargo ship in Nosferatu, the Murnau arrives in port with its entire crew dead and drained of blood.
