A father and son go on the run, pursued by the government and a cult drawn to the child's special powers.
 
This is one of those films where the director thought it would be a good idea to drop the audience smack-dab in the middle of the story right from the beginning.  The problem with this is by the time the audience has figured out the basic plot of the story and who the characters really are...the movie is basically over and we haven't connected to anything or anyone.
 
FUN FACT:  According to director Jeff Nichols, Adam Driver's first day on set was the same day he got the news he would be in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015).
